A teenage boy charged with murder after a 14-year-old girl from Maine was found dead by her mom

A 14-year-old Maine girl was discovered dead by her mother and a teenage boy has been charged with murder, according to the police.

Early on Saturday morning, Maine State Police made an unnamed minor arrest in relation to Brooke McLaughlin’s passing.

The seventh-grader was discovered by her mother Rebecca “Becky” McLaughlin on July 18 at six o’clock in their residence at 25 Blackberry Road.

‘I love you my beautiful angel… fly high baby girl… my heart is broken but I’m trying my hardest Brooke Mclaughlin… mom loves you forever and justice will be served… you will always be mom’s everything… #justiceforBrooke,’ Becky wrote July 23 on Facebook while attaching a video of her singing ‘Dancing in the Sky.’

Police have established that Brooke was acquainted with her alleged murderer, who is currently detained at the Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland.

The boy’s name and other information about the probe are being withheld by the authorities.

A representative for Maine Authorities stated, “We will also not be releasing any investigative details, such as what led police to the juvenile.”

The families’ missing red Chevy Impala was discovered by police the following day in Wayne, according to WMTW.

Less than a month ago, on July 2, the victim, a Maranacook Middle School student, turned 14 years old.

According to her obituary, she is remembered as a “kind, loving, thoughtful, big hearted, strong person who loved her family and friends.”

Brooke was dropped off by the school bus earlier that day, according to Zachary Williams, the McLaughlins’ next-door neighbour, who spoke with the Press Herald.

‘This is Mount Vernon,’ Williams said. ‘You don’t think anything like that would happen here.’

‘It makes me want to get security, get some cameras and lock up. I always do lock up. It makes me feel not comfortable. Something like this is sad.’

Brooke’s death was announced to the community on July 21 by Jay Charette, Superintendent of Maranacook Schools.

‘Although we don’t know the circumstances of this tragic event we are working with various agencies to offer our support in a timely and appropriately sensitive manner to our students and staff given the nature of this tragedy,’ he wrote in a statement.
