Pit Bull attacks six-year-old girl in Maine

A six-year-old girl in Maine will never be able to smile again after being attacked by a pit bull while on a playdate at her friend’s house. Lily Norton was left with over 1,000 stitches in her face and neck after the dog, who was being watched by her friend’s mother, mauled her.

The attack occurred when Lily’s friend left the table to retrieve a deck of cards. Lily was flown to Boston Children’s Hospital for an 11-hour surgery.

Doctors say that Lily’s salivary glands aren’t working, and the damage to her facial muscles is too extensive for her to smile again. She has been sedated and put on a breathing tube to prevent her from scratching at her face while she heals. The dog belonged to a neighbour’s relative who was watching it, and Animal Control Officers are investigating the incident.

Lily’s mother has been by her daughter’s side since the attack, while her father cares for their other children back in their hometown.

Family and friends have raised nearly $64,000 through a GoFundMe campaign to help with Lily’s medical expenses and travel costs between Maine and Boston.

Despite the tragedy, the Norton family has been grateful for the outpouring of support they have received. Lily’s mother gave an update on her daughter’s condition, saying that she looks good but will never be able to smile again. The attack was a terrible tragedy that changed Lily’s life forever.
