British woman dies in Spain after being mauled by a pit bull that she took in

A 67-year-old British woman has died in Spain after being attacked and killed by a pit bull she had recently taken in. The woman had picked up the abandoned dog from a field near Valencia, a few days before the incident.

Authorities were alerted to the attack after screams were heard, and she was rushed to hospital in critical condition. However, she eventually succumbed to her injuries and died. The woman lived alone and had two daughters who also lived abroad.

The Civil Guard used a firearm to kill the animal, so that emergency services could help the woman. The mayor of the town where the woman lived, Macastre, described her as an animal lover who had welcomed the dog, fed it, and taken care of it.

He added that the dog was in perfect condition with her, and they do not understand what caused the attack.

Spain enacted a law on the possession of potentially dangerous animals in 2002. The law identifies certain breeds such as Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Rottweiler, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, Tosa Inu and Akita Inu as potentially dangerous.
