Mom of five from North Carolina mauled to death in a brutal attack by a pair of pit bulls

The mother of five from North Carolina, 46, was mauled to death in her own house by a pair of pit bulls she was dog sitting.

Trena Peed, who recently lost two sons in vehicle accidents two years apart, was putting her dogs out at 2 a.m. on Thursday when they dragged her out into the backyard with them.

That night, neighbors reported hearing cries.

‘It’s getting dark. ‘All I hear is her shrieking and her dogs attacking her over there,’ one neighbor added.

Peed’s son was inside the house throughout the attack and awoke to discover his mother dead.

Police who responded to the calls found the woman dead at her Greensboro home.

‘Early this morning, my mom was tragically taken away from us by a vicious attack from dogs,’ said the woman’s daughter, Waynesha Peed, adding: ‘My siblings, grandmother, family, & I are heartbroken at her sudden passing.’ File photo: It was not clear who the owner of the pit bulls was following the incident, and the police have not yet filed any charges. Officers shot one of the dogs at the scene

According to reports, officers shot one of the dogs at the scene, while the other is presently in the custody of animal control and quarantine.

Following the event, it was unclear who owned the animals, and the police had not yet filed any charges.

‘Whoever owns the property must come forward since they claim to love my daughter.’ This is not expressing love for her at this time,’ mother Helen Harris told WFMY.

Harris had only told her a few days before to stop caring for the two pit dogs.

‘It’s terrible. She got mauled to death. That’s terrible,’ said Peed’s neighbour. ‘We were really good friends. Her and my wife talked together a lot. We were just friends. It’s terrible, even if I didn’t know her at all, I don’t care who it was.’

The family is appealing for donations to help bring the woman home to bury her in Virginia, setting up a GoFundMe Page.
