Seven-month-old brain harmed by two pit bulls

A seven-month-old infant was “mauled” by two pit bulls, leaving him with terrible damage.

On November 3, the event happened when Washington, DC, infant Semaj was in the care of a babysitter.

Semaj’s grandmother left him with her daughter while the babysitter went errands, according to his grandpa Dajuane Goode, 46.

Semaj, according to Dajuane, was at the babysitter’s home when her daughter unlocked the basement door, allowing the pit bulls to escape.

The small child, who was in his walker, is said to have been attacked by the dogs, who bit him on the head, face, and chest.

The infant, according to Dajuane, sustained a cracked skull, a broken nose, lacerations to his face and chest, and a loss of his prior motor abilities.

He is now unable to breathe on his own and will eventually suffer from brain damage.

The babysitter’s boyfriend is said to be the owner of the two canines.

Since the event, according to Dajuane, they have been taken into custody and put to death.

Semaj was severely injured and was treated using “life-saving techniques” in the ICU after the incident.

When Semaj’s mother Derica, 25, came at the hospital, they informed her that Semaj’s heart had stopped beating and that he had been unconscious for 20 to 30 minutes.

They had to do three sets of compressions on him in order to revive him.

In the ER, they warned that he may not survive, she continued. They said that his small heart may stop again and that he lost a lot of blood.

I’ve remained at Semaj’s side ever since the day of the event, and I’ll never leave.

The family has previously hired the babysitter, according to Dajuane, therefore there was no need for them to exercise caution.

But since the tragic event, they haven’t talked to her.

The ICU transferred Semaj on November 17.

Dajuane acknowledged that his recuperation would be “long,” but he and his family are working to remain optimistic.

Domica is experiencing a flurry of emotions, he added, and one minute she is blaming herself for not protecting her kid.

Another minute later, she is enraged by the dog’s owner’s carelessness.

Overall however, she is quite appreciative that Semaj is still here with us.

Just days before the incident, the baby’s relatives posted pictures of him grinning in a Halloween costume.

A GoFundMe campaign has been created by the family to pay for medical expenses, and more than $11,000 has been donated so far.

They are pushing for the US to pass the “Large Dog Act Semaj Bill.”

According to Dajuane, the proposed law would oblige owners of big dogs to have their animals yearly screened for aggression by a qualified veterinarian.

If it is determined that the dog is aggressive, appropriate training and precautions will be taken to guarantee both the public’s and the dog’s owner’s safety.
