A failed attempt by the Royal Mint to make the release of a new Sovereign portraying King Charles go viral online has left it looking foolish.
The coin producers’ social media managers had tried to capitalize on the ‘elf on the shelf’ frenzy on Twitter.
With its incomplete “You’ve heard of elf on the shelf,” however, it severely backfired.
The message “Now get ready for…” received several unique answers.
Later, it was revealed—rather disappointingly—that the right response was “Sovereign on a sovereign.”
Many laughed at it, and others even questioned if they knew that it was intended to rhyme before calling it “abysmal.”
As people searched for the right answer on social media, their guesses ranged from the clever to the absurd.
King on some golden Bling?, Steve Cheeseman quipped.
The same notion was maintained by Naomi McAuliffe with her suggestion to “King on some Kerching.”
Another poster stated that they were unsure and that “Crown on a Pound?? Who is to say?
Tim Doherty’s prediction, “Sovereign on a sovereign,” proved to be accurate, while Matt Becker pondered “Hereditary ruler on the moolah.”
One cent coins were said to come back in production in September 2021 after being halted due to the Covid epidemic.
The Royal Mint said that more than 88 million new 1p coins were produced.
Pillar boxes, money, and stamps will need to be changed with new representations of King Charles as a result of the Queen’s passing.
As new products are produced, printed, and put into circulation, the creation of currency will be a slow process.
A new 50p coin with King Charles III’s image was unveiled by The Royal Mint on December 8.
The reverse, sometimes known as the “tails” side, honors Queen Elizabeth II and her heritage.
The 4.9 million coins will be available for purchase at post offices all around the UK.
When consumers make purchases, they will be given out as change.
