On Saturday, Brianna Ghey was fatally stabbed in Warrington, northwest England. That afternoon, members of the public discovered her on a trail in a park.

The police department had earlier stated that it was investigating if Ghey was the victim of a transphobic crime.

Lawmaker Nadia Whittome tweeted on Sunday, “Brianna earned a chance to become a beautiful adult lady and to live to witness a society where trans people are safe and respected.”

Previously, Detective Chief Superintendent Mike Evans stated, “I would request that anyone with any information, no matter how large or small, that could benefit our inquiry please contact us.”

In remembrance of Ghey, who had a significant following on the social networking website TikTok, candlelight vigils have been held across the nation, including in nearby Liverpool on Tuesday evening.

In the next days, the transgender community was scheduled to host more gatherings in London, Glasgow, Leeds, and Belfast.

One day after its creation, a GoFundMe page helping Ghey’s family has already raised more than $91,000.

In a statement released following her death, her family described her as a “beloved daughter, grandchild, and baby sister.”

The statement said, “Brianna was attractive, intelligent, and humorous. Brianna was courageous, courageous, and one-of-a-kind.

The loss of her young life has left a tremendous void in our family, and we are certain that her instructors and friends will feel the same way.

According to data from the non-profit Everytown for Gun Safety, the number of transgender people murdered in the United States nearly doubled between 2017 and 2021. In the United States, 56 transgender people were murdered in 2021, a 93% rise from 2017.
