Apple meringue pie recipe

When it comes to cuisine, South Africans are masters at blending several meals to create something entirely unique. If you like apple crumble, this apple meringue pie has the filling and is topped with another renowned whipped egg yolk delicacy. The apple filling is sweet and spicy, and the crust has a deep chocolate flavour. It’s a beautiful and tasty pie that goes well with a cup of tea or coffee.

Apple meringue pie suggestions

The crust is not your typical pie crust, but rather a crumbly cocoa-infused par-baked crust. It’s rich and sweet, just what a pie needs. The apples like to be gently cooked until they are tender and delicious. To make it taste more like a festive apple crumble, add more allspice and cinnamon. Make lovely meringue forms on top of the pie using a piping bag. Decorate with cherries or any other fruit that looks and tastes good to you.

If you like baking, chances are you are also creative. Combine classic desserts to make this lovely apple meringue pie for your next tea party.
