14-year-old Ukrainian girl dies after being found unconscious on a beach

Devon and Cornwall Police have reported that a 14-year-old girl, who was a Ukrainian national, was found unconscious on a beach in south Devon on Saturday and has since died. The search for the missing girl was conducted with the assistance of a police helicopter and the coastguard. An unconscious person was found on Dawlish Beach and was airlifted to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Formal identification has taken place, and her next of kin have been informed.

Detective Inspector Becky Davies explained that the girl was reported missing from the Dawlish area on the evening of Saturday 4 March. Following localised searches, the unconscious person was discovered on the beach. DI Davies stated that the deceased girl was a Ukrainian national living in Dawlish and that the Ukrainian Embassy has been contacted, while the Home Office is aware of the incident.

The circumstances surrounding the girl’s death are currently being treated as unexplained, and the investigation is ongoing. DI Davies expressed condolences to the family and friends of the teenage girl during this tragic time.
