A 14-year-old Ukrainian girl was found unconscious on a beach in south Devon and later died.
On Saturday evening, police were informed of the teenage girl’s disappearance from the Dawlish area.
After a search, the girl was found unconscious and was airlifted to a hospital where she died.
Devon and Cornwall Police have informed the next of kin after formal identification.
The police are currently treating the death as unexplained.
Detective Inspector Becky Davies stated that “localised searches took place with support from the police helicopter and coastguard and an unconscious person was found on Dawlish Beach.”
She added that “enquiries continue as to the circumstances surrounding this death” and that “contact has been made with the Ukrainian Embassy and The Home Office is also aware of this incident.”
DI Davies also mentioned that “the deceased girl was a Ukrainian national living in the Dawlish area.” The police are appealing to the public for any information or CCTV/doorbell footage that can assist with their investigation.
At this tragic time, the police express their condolences and stated that “our thoughts are with the family and friends of the teenage girl.”
