Albina Yevko dies after being found unconscious on a beach in Devon

Albina Yevko, a 14-year-old Ukrainian schoolgirl who had been living in Dawlish with her mother and a British family, has died after being found unconscious on a beach in Devon.

Albina had fled Ukraine following Putin’s invasion a year ago and was attending a local school.

Police were called when she was reported missing on Saturday evening, and searches led to the discovery of an unconscious person on Dawlish Beach.

Albina was airlifted to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, where she later died. Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death, which is being treated as unexplained.

Albina’s mother, Inna Yevko, has paid tribute to her daughter and released a photo of her. She described Albina as “beautiful” and said, “nothing can ever replace her in our hearts. We ask that our privacy is respected at this incredibly painful time.”

The headteacher at Dawlish College, where Albina was a year 9 student, also paid tribute to her and extended condolences to her family.

The local community in Dawlish has expressed shock and sadness at Albina’s death. One close family friend described her as “very bright, smart, interesting” and a “good person.”

The youngster has been described as a “kind and caring person” by pupils at the local school she attended.

Police are appealing for anyone with CCTV or doorbell camera footage to come forward and help with their investigation into Albina’s death.

The tragic incident has upset many local people in the area who are desperate for answers.
