Kurtley Beale, a utility back for the Wallabies, was arrested on Friday for the alleged sexual assault of a woman in Sydney in December.
On 17 December 2022, a 28-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted in a public restroom at the Beach Road Hotel in Bondi Beach, Sydney, according to reports from Australia.
The victim immediately reported the assault to police, who conducted an investigation and arrested Beale today after halting his car on Rainbow Road in Kingsford at approximately 2:30 p.m.
The 34-year-old Wallabies playmaker was transported to the Waverley Police Station, where he is presently being questioned and will likely be charged.
Eddie was named the Wallabies’ messiah.
Rugby Australia, the NSW Waratahs, and the Rugby Union Players Association issued a joint statement saying they are aware of the situation in response to Beale’s detention.
The joint statement stated, “Rugby Australia, the NSW Waratahs, and the Rugby Union Players Association (RUPA) are aware of the situation involving Kurtley Beale.”
As this is a police matter, and as far as we know, no charges have been filed, we will have no more comment at this time.
Beale has spent the majority of his career with the NSW Waratahs, but he has also spent time with the Melbourne Rebels. He signed a two-year contract with the French team Racing 92 in 2020. Upon the expiration of his contract, he returned to the Waratahs.
Beale was one of 44 players picked earlier this month for a four-day Wallabies camp on the Gold Coast, in anticipation of the Rugby World Cup in September.
In a career that spans more than a decade, he has participated in more than 90 games for the Wallabies.
The claimed event occurred just a few months after Beale and his wife had their first child, Maddie.
Prior to his arrest, Kurtley Beale was named to the Wallabies squad.
