Man detained for murder and kidnapping

On 17 January 2023, a 41-year-old suspect was detained in connection with the kidnapping and murder of a 23-year-old man from the village of Mafefe who was reported missing in July 2022.

The victim’s remains were discovered glued in a pipe near to a local river.

Saturday, 30 July 2022, at approximately 18:00, the victim Kwena Mokoka unexpectedly vanished after answering a phone call outside.

His family searched for him and even contacted his phone, which was off, but he did not return home.

The event was reported to the police, but search efforts yielded negative findings.

The inquiry was taken up by the SAPS Task Team, which is responsible for investigating missing people and occult cases throughout the province of Limpopo.

During their investigations, an arrest was made.

Additionally, an alleged Mozambican kidnapping kingpin was caught in a posh neighborhood.

After months of searching, the investigating team was able to conclusively link the suspect to the occurrence.

The victim’s skeletal bones were discovered within a concrete conduit near the local river as the inquiry advanced.

The corpses were exhumed with the assistance of the SAPS Water Wing, employees from Polokwane Emergency Services, and equipment from the Lebowakgoso fire department.

Police investigations will determine the motivation behind the incident.

A DNA test will be conducted to authenticate the identification of the dead, and a post-mortem investigation will be conducted to ascertain the cause of death.

Lieutenant General Hadebe, provincial commissioner, congratulated the investigating team for ultimately apprehending the perpetrator and collecting the remains, helping the family to find closure.

“We thank the crew for successfully capturing the perpetrator and recovering the victim’s remains. Even though it took the police some time to solve this case, the family can take comfort in the knowing that their loved one’s remains have been located and the culprit has been apprehended,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.

On January 20, 2023, the suspect is set to appear before the Lebowakgomo Magistrate’s Court on allegations of kidnapping and murder.

The cops are currently doing their investigations.
