Colombia airport arrested Mr Tamer, a British man on suspicion of attempted cocaine smuggling

After attempting to smuggle cocaine out of a Colombian airport, a British man was caught.

After seeing uniformed authorities at a security checkpoint, Russell Tamer allegedly threw a sachet of the class A substance into an airport toilet.

He was apprehended by police when sniffer dogs discovered a kilo of cocaine strapped to his body.

He was apprehended at the Simon Bolivar International Airport in Santa Marta, Colombia, the Magdalena Department’s capital.

Mr Tamer’s mugshot, as well as footage of him being paraded in front of cameras with two officers on either side of him, was published in the Colombian national press today.

He allegedly appeared before a judge in a private court hearing and was remanded in custody while the inquiry was ongoing.

On Friday, it was unclear where he planned to fly to with the cocaine hoard.
