Two teenagers, 15 and 16, charged over the stabbing death of a 20-year-old man in Underwood

Aiden Rhys Bower-Miles, a 20-year-old man, died after being stabbed to death in a brawl between two groups at Fermont Drive, Underwood in the city of Logan on Friday.

Two teenagers, aged 15 and 16, have been arrested and charged with his murder. Detective Superintendent Brendan Smith confirmed that the violent altercation wasn’t linked to gang activity, rather, it was a result of a chance meeting that turned into a physical altercation. Smith also dismissed the notion that knives were present during the fight.

After the groups dispersed, Bower-Miles walked 100m down the road to a friend’s house where he collapsed. Emergency services tried to revive him, but he died at the scene. The two teens were denied bail and were charged with Bower-Miles’ murder. Tributes poured in for the young man after his loved ones received the tragic news.

He was remembered as someone who loved cars, and who had a contagious laugh that could be heard from kilometers away.

The police found a black Audi sedan, from which one of the boys was located, in Helensvale shopping centre after a public appeal for information about the vehicle.

The two teenagers arrested were described as young, and the community rightfully denounces this type of lethal violence, which the police also condemned. Smith emphasised that carrying knives is unacceptable, and that there is no valid reason to carry a knife. The deceased’s vehicle and another, which contained blood, were towed from the scene.

Witnesses around the same age as the two teenagers and who live in nearby units had just returned from a social function elsewhere in Brisbane when the alleged incident occurred. Neighbours reported waking up to the sound of screams in the street after the alleged stabbing.

Business owner Abbos Ahmedov expressed his concerns about the area’s safety for raising children, and he believed that more police presence was needed to address the high rate of crime in the area.
