On Friday, a 24-year-old man was charged with attempted murder for stabbing two police officers in central London. The male and female officers were hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries.

Saturday, London Metropolitan Police charged Mohammed Rahman with attempted murder for attacking the male officer and grievous bodily injury with intent for stabbing the female officer. The two cops were stabbed in the West End of London, according to the Metropolitan police. The attack is not classified as terrorism.

Friday morning, police officers patrolling near Leicester Square were attacked while attempting to arrest a man armed with a knife, according to the Metropolitan Police.

Police chief Mark Rowley said that the female officer had a life-threatening knife wound to her arm, while her partner was stabbed in the neck and chest, but is expected to recover fully.

According to the police, a Taser was used during the arrest, and the suspect was momentarily sent to the hospital as a precaution.

While London is filled with mourners for Queen Elizabeth II’s lying-in-state, the stabbing did not occur near any commemoration locations, and the wounded cops were not part of the royal operation, according to the police.

Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London, described the incident as “utterly appalling.”

“These brave officers were doing their duty and assisting the public at this momentous time for our country,” he said. “My thoughts and prayers are with them, their loved ones and police colleagues following this disgraceful attack.”

On Monday, Rahman is scheduled to make his first court appearance.
