21-year-old woman appears in court charged with stabbing her own mother to death

Today, a 21-year-old lady was accused with stabbing her own mother to death.

Hanna Bennis, age 21, is accused of stabbing Aziza Bennis, age 58, more than 30 times, although she maintains it was in self-defense.

Monday afternoon, neighbours phoned the police when they heard screams outside the apartment building where Aziza, a mother of two, resided near the Acton Town tube station in west London.

Today, the eldest daughter of the victim appeared in court at Uxbridge wearing a grey prison tracksuit.

She spoke just to confirm her name, birth date, and residence and is charged with a single crime of murder.

Lisa Wren, prosecuting, told the court: ‘It is a domestic violence matter where, sadly, the deceased is Miss Bennis’s mother.’

Ms Wren added: ‘They were seen arguing outside a block of flats. The sound of screams prompted the neighbours to dial 911.

‘Police attended and heard the screaming. The complainant was stabbed multiple times.’

Miss Bennis, of Ealing, west London, was remanded in jail until her next court appearance on August 19 at the Old Bailey. She is charged with murder.

Alongside the London Ambulance Service and the London Air Ambulance, Met Police officers were there.

A postmortem examination revealed that Ms. Bennis died from several knife wounds.

Neighbors have expressed their horror after the woman’s death.

One, who did not want to be named, said that Ms Bennis, 58, had lived in the flat for 17 years and was ‘a nice person, very friendly’.

‘I haven’t been to work today, I couldn’t sleep,’ the neighbour said yesterday.

Residents said that Aziza worked at the adjacent Ark Acton Academy.

Neighbour Steven Dineen, 52, said: ‘She was really lovely, one of the people here I really got on with. Just the other day she was getting a cab and offered me a ride, the last time I saw her.’

Another neighbour, 38-year-old Rachael Charles, said, ‘She was a really sweet and kind woman. They were one of the first families to settle into the neighbourhood around 17 years ago. She would constantly flash a grin as she passed.

Another neighbour said that ‘it’s really sad’, adding that she heard a ruckus on Monday.

I’ve known her since 2005, when we all came to this city. She was considerate.

This is the sixth homicide that has been suspected in the capital in just four days.
