Thalea Smidt lauds Sundowns Ladies

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies has had a busy season thus far. The Brazilians have persevered in the face of difficulty while putting up some fantastic performances in the catch-up games throughout the championship defence.

Despite playing almost twice a week, the Brazilians have been in beast mode since the COSAFA final setback. After defeating Golden Ladies 7-1, the Durban Ladies were defeated 1-0.

The team defeated Tsunami Queens 7-0 before defeating City Lads Ladies 3-0. The reigning champions most recently defeated Richmond United by a score of five goals without a reply.

Sundowns Ladies have fought their way back into contention for the league championship defence thanks to their remarkable run of play.

Thalea Smidt, a midfielder, thinks the squad has had to work hard over the last several weeks.

“Due to the volume of games we had to play, the last several weeks have been challenging. The quick turnaround time has taken a toll on the squad, but we have persevered game in and game out. In addition to the demanding schedule, the calibre of the opponents we have recently encountered has tested us to the maximum. We have managed to achieve a flawless run since COSAFA despite their tactical set-ups. We are proud of how far we have come, and our place at the table is a result of our perseverance and hard work,” Thalea said.

After playing 16 games, Sundowns Ladies have accumulated 45 points with 15 victories. The greatest defensive team in the league, the Brazilians have allowed just nine goals while scoring a league-high 72 goals. Also without a draw this year is Mamelodi Sundowns.

Because to Bayana Bayana’s travel plans, the Hollywoodbets Super League will be suspended until mid-September. After the short break, Sundowns Ladies will play top-of-the-table rival JVW FC.

The respite, in Thalea’s opinion, is much-needed. “This is the ideal time for us to take a breath. The goal is to evaluate our performance going forward and think back on it. The squad has had a number of injuries over the last several weeks, but we anticipate being totally healthy for our next game. Everyone on the squad is aware that the season is far from done.

Boitumelo Rabale has the most goals for the Sundowns with 13, followed by Andisiwe Mgcoyi and Miche Minnies, who each have ten. Melinda Kgadiete, Gabonnelwe Kekana, and Rhoda Mulaudzi have all scored five goals.

Keep going, ladies!
