Sundowns Ladies beat Vasco do Gama Ladies

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies took a significant step toward defending their Hollywoodbets Super League crown with a 4-0 victory over Vasco da Gama Ladies at the UWC Stadium in Cape Town on Sunday.

Oratile Mokwena, Miche Minnies, Boitumelo Rabale, and Rhada Mulaudzi scored goals to give The Brazilians a decisive victory over the freshly promoted team.

Jerry ‘Kappa’ Tshabalala began the match with Sedilame Bosija in goal and Zanele Nhlapho, Regina Mogolola, Khutso Pila, and Lehlogolo Mashigo on defense. Midfielders Chuene Morifi, Oratile Mokwena, and Lelona Daweti were joined by forwards Boitumelo Rabale, Nonhlanhla Mthandi, and Miche Minnies.

Oratile Mokwena’s first goal of the season, scored in the middle of the first half, shattered the opposition’s resistance after Kappa’s men had controlled the opening period.

Banyana Ba Style closed the first half with a 3-0 lead, with goals from Miche Minnies and Boitumelo Rabale.

Rhoda Mulaudzi, Thembelihle Masibi, and Karabo Makhurubetshi replaced Lehlogonolo Mashigo, Miche Minnies, and Boitumelo Rabale following the intermission.

Substitute Rhoda Mulaudzi’s late goal helped Sundowns Ladies to a 4-0 triumph, their second over their opponents in four days.

Oratile Mokwena, winner of the ‘Woman of the Match’ award, commented on the team’s tactical approach to the game, stating, “We expected them to park the bus as they did a few days earlier, but they came at us, and we were strategically savvy to handle the element of surprise. Our movement on and off the ball was excellent, and we were able to express ourselves throughout the field. We are pleased to have secured maximum points.”

Lelona Daweti was likewise satisfied with the team’s performance: “Our objective was to control the game, and we did so from the opening whistle. We made a number of offensive rushes against their defensive lines, and the outcome was well-deserved. Our performance tonight demonstrated how much we grew from our midweek contest.

Despite scoring a goal against her previous squad, Miche Minnies was full of praise for her team: “I am really thrilled to be on the scoresheet since we needed all three points. Getting a goal against my former team is satisfying, but claiming the three points is really important to me. We have thoroughly enjoyed our time in Cape Town and are eagerly anticipating our next match.”

Sundowns Ladies continue to lead the Hollywoodbets Super League rankings with 61 points after twenty victories in twenty-three contests. The Brazilians have scored an incredible 92 goals while conceding just 11. Additionally, the Brazilians have an enormous goal differential of +81.

Boitumelo Rabale and Miche Minnies are tied for first place with 16 goals each on the Sundowns’ scoring chart. Andisiwe Mgcoyi has scored ten goals, while Melinda Kgadiete and Rhoda Mulaudzi have each scored seven.
