Firstly, a number of clubs are reportedly tracking Swansea City striker Joel Piroe this summer.
The striker has achieved an impressive tally of 38 goals in 82 games for the Swans since arriving at the Swansea.com Stadium in the summer of 2021.
Championship high-fliers Middlesbrough are now monitoring his progress with a possible view to bringing him to Teesside. Burnley and Norwich are also believed to be admirers, while Scottish giants Rangers have also been credited with an interest.
The same report claims Premier League duo Crystal Palace and Everton have previously explored a deal, adding that the Eagles even held talks over a transfer in January.
Piroe was strongly tipped for a move back in the summer, but an exit never materialised. It could perhaps change at the end of the season, with boss Russell Martin likely facing a decisive summer window.
Secondly, Russell Martin, the boss of Swansea City, has stated that his side must show some fight when they face Millwall at The Den that evening.
The Swans haven’t won on the road since January, where they saw off ten-man Sunderland 3-1 at the Stadium of Light. Martin believes his team are close to reaching a turning point after a difficult run that’s yielded just three wins in their last 20 league games.
“We need a win before the break to help build some momentum and for everyone to feel positive,” he said. “I like what I’ve seen from the lads in the last two games.
We’ve got a bit of zip, energy and confidence back. We have to go to Millwall on Tuesday and show the same fight and willingness to work for each other that we’ve shown in the past two games and try to find a way to win. It’s a place we went to last season and did brilliantly at, hopefully we can do it again.”
Lastly, Swansea duo Ben Cabango and Ollie Cooper have been called up to Rob Page’s Wales squad for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers with Croatia and Latvia later this month.
It’s Cooper’s first call-up to the national side, and comes after he was included on the standby list for the World Cup campaign in Qatar. Page’s side take on Croatia at Stadion Poljud in Split on March 25 (7.45pm), before returning to the Cardiff City Stadium to take on Latvia three days later.
Meanwhile, Olivier Ntcham has been called up by Cameroon, who kick off an AFCON 2023 qualification double-header with Namibia on March 24 and March 28.
Wales boss Page says Cooper has earned the right to be a part of his Wales plans, and has hailed the midfielder’s impressive work-rate as a key factor in his decision to include him in the latest 24-man squad.
“I’ve watched Ollie a couple of times. I watched him last week. He came off with an injury at half-time. The game before, he started left wing and finished right-back.
That just tells you he’s got a great attitude. He just wants to play football. I watched him Saturday against Middlesbrough and his energy is crazy.”
