Susie Essman: Jeff Garlin is ‘working very hard’ after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder

According to his “Curb Your Enthusiasm” co-star Susie Essman, Jeff Garlin is doing his best in the aftermath of his bipolar illness diagnosis.

“He’s working extremely hard. “He’s taking his medications, he’s in treatment, and he’s trying hard to manage it,” the actress told Page Six exclusively at a cocktail party promoting the new Broadway musical “Some Like It Hot” on Friday night.

In September, 60-year-old Garlin posted on Instagram that he had been diagnosed with the mental disease that produces significant mood swings.

He wrote, “Bipolar is a motherf–ker.” “Sometimes it’s simply too much to handle. I am doing my my best. This is the first time I’ve spoken publicly about this.”

The illness has not prevented the comedian from filming “Curb” Season 12.

“I recently returned home for Thanksgiving, and this is the funniest time of year,” said 67-year-old Essman. “I’ve already lost my voice screaming and cursing at Larry [David] and Jeff, so there’s nothing else for me to say. I developed laryngitis from yelling at them, but they deserve it, right?”

The “Broad City” actress revealed that her fans are frequently surprised because she’s nothing like her caustic “Curb” character, Susie Greene, who can’t manage to complete a sentence without using profanity and is constantly yelling at David, 75, and Garlin, her on-screen husband.

On the sitcom “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” Garlin and Essman portray a married couple.

She added, “I despise shouting and screaming.” “I adore the protagonist Susie Green. In actuality, I do not behave in this manner. People stop me on the street, and I’m polite to them, but I can see on their faces that they’re plainly dismayed and annoyed that I’m being kind.

Essman has worked in the comedy industry for nearly three decades and has developed personal relations with a number of her colleagues, including the late Gilbert Gottfried, whose funeral she addressed at in April.

Currently, Essman is filming the twelfth season of “Curb.”

She remarked to Page Six, “I don’t know anyone in my entire life who was cheaper than Gilbert.” “It was a pathology, but everything about Gilbert was so appealing — he was like a child you wanted to care for, which I believe was manipulative. He did this to convince you to take care of him, but he was the cheapest guy on the planet.

Designers Zac Posen, David Lauren, and Lauren Bush Lauren, actors Tony Danza and Gina Gershon, “Beverly Hills, 90210” creator Darren Star, and journalist Rob Shuter were among the other celebrities at the cocktail party. Marc Shaiman, who composed the music and co-wrote the lyrics for “Some Like It Hot,” sat at a grand piano and sang the title song to their amusement.
