Mother and daughter diagnosed with breast cancer to take part in Breast Cancer fashion show

A mother and daughter who were both diagnosed with breast cancer within a week of each other will participate in Breast Cancer Now’s The Show, a fashion show specifically designed for people who have or had the disease.

Angela Jones, aged 60, and her daughter Mary, aged 32, received their diagnoses in 2021.

Angela was diagnosed with stage two, grade two breast cancer in December 2021 after having a mammogram, while Mary was diagnosed within days of her mother’s diagnosis after having a lump checked for the third time.

Mary described the diagnoses as a shock that turned their worlds upside down and set them on fire.

As a former primary school teacher, Mary had treatment at the Edinburgh Cancer Centre, where both she and her mother saw the same oncologist and had the same surgeon.

The shared experience brought the pair closer together, providing some comfort and reassurance as they underwent treatment.

The mother and daughter duo will join 22 other models living with or who had breast cancer in The Show, which will take place on April 20.

Angela expressed her joy at being able to participate in the event, which she described as a privilege. Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in the UK, with around 4,800 women and 30 men diagnosed with the disease every year in Scotland alone.
