Sundowns Ladies record-breaking triumph over Wadi Degla

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies became the first team in the history of the CAF Women’s Champions League to score five goals in a single match when they defeated Wadi Degla 5-0 in their second Group B match.

Banyana Ba Style won 5-0 thanks to goals from Boitumelo Rabale, Lelona Daweti, Melinda Kgadiete, and Bambanani Mbane, preserving their hopes of defending their continental crown.

Sedilame Bosija was given the starting position in goal, while Zanele Nhlapho, Bambanani Mbane, Karabo Makhurubetshi, and Chuene Morifi anchored the defensive line. Lerato Kgasago, Oratile Mokwena, and Boitumelo Rabale started in the midfield, while the in-form Lelona Daweti was paired with Nonhlanhla Mthandi and Andisiwe Mgcoyi in attack.

Lelona Daweti scored her third goal of the tournament with a near-post finish following some deft footwork by Morifi as the Brazilians dominated both territory and possession in the opening quarter.

Melinda Kgadiete, who replaced the injured Andisiwe Mgcoyi, made it 2-0 in the first half as the defending champions displayed their superiority.

After halftime, Boitumelo Rabale scored two fantastic goals, including a stunning free kick and a well-placed shot. Bambanani Mbane scored the game’s fifth goal with a header as Banyana Ba Style secured a record-setting triumph.

Boitumelo Rabale was selected “Woman of the Match” due to her outstanding all-around performance.

“Receiving this honor is a privilege, and I do not take it for granted. However, this is a trophy for the entire squad, as we played for one another and achieved the desired outcome. Our goal at this competition is to dominate games and demonstrate clinical finishing. Rabale noted, “We are taking things one step at a time, and this team has yet to reach its full potential.”

Coach Jerry ‘Kappa’ Tshabalala was effusive in his appreciation for his players, whose dominating victory carved their name into the annals of history.

“The squad deserves credit for executing the game plan to the letter. Today, our ball retention and distribution were phenomenal, which made our lives much easier. Our combination plays assured that we were in the proper locations. Today, our tactics were impeccable, and we made things difficult for our opponents. “Kudos to our technical team for a job well done in terms of the level of information that our analysts consistently provide,” remarked Kappa.
