Sundowns Ladies’ Lumka Qhekeka is thrilled with her mini-break

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies have had a terrific season, putting up a number of outstanding performances in the Hollywoodbets Super League.

The Brazilians have been, to put it mildly, impressive despite the penalty disappointment in the COSAFA Qualifiers for the CAF Women’s Champions League.

Sundowns Ladies dropped as far as fifth in the Hollywoodbets Super League rankings with five games remaining during the COSAFA assignment.

The reigning champions have shown their guts and fortitude despite playing twice a week since they returned to league competition.

Despite the increasing number of injuries and bans, coach Jerry ‘Kappa’ Tshabalala has had to manage his team by switching up the lineup sometimes and experimenting with various formations to keep the team in shape.

Teenage wonder Lumka Qhekeka is one player who has profited from the rotations. The young lady discussed the chances she has had so far this season.

“I am delighted with the opportunities I have been given this semester. I now have a renewed feeling of confidence as a result of having to compete against numerous seasoned international players.

Both the team’s more experienced players and the coaching staff have been extremely encouraging of my professional development.

I’m aiming to play in more games so I can help the squad succeed as a whole. Goals win games, therefore I want to score more of them too,” Lumka said.

After playing 16 games, Sundowns Ladies have accumulated 45 points with 15 victories. The league’s strongest defence, the Brazilians have allowed just nine goals while scoring a league-high 72. The Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies also boast a staggering +63 goal differential.

This weekend marks the return of the Hollywoodbets Super League, with Sundowns Ladies playing the University of the Western Cape (UWC).

Due to Bayana Bayana’s obligations abroad, the crew has taken a little holiday, but Qhekeka thinks they have been hard at work in the background.

Coach Jerry has made a lot of noise about the necessity for us to prepare for the next few months. Although the vacation gave us a chance to rest up, we have been quite active with our training schedule in an effort to stay in condition.

We do not want to lose the momentum we have built up over the last several weeks, which is why. We cannot be complacent this season since there is so much on the line,” the young man said.

The University of the Western Cape (UWC) will play Sundowns Ladies on September 18 at Tuks Stadium. The 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League, which will take place later this year, is another event the Brazilians are preparing for.
