Rapper who detailed how he stabbed a teenager to death in a song has been jailed for life

A 19-year-old rapper, Abdirahaman Yussuf, who wrote a song bragging about stabbing a teenager to death, has been sentenced to life imprisonment.

The victim, 18-year-old Yahya Sharif, was killed in December 2021, just moments after exiting his car in Small Heath, Birmingham. Yussuf was apprehended later by the police who discovered an envelope containing a handwritten rap song about the murder, with lyrics using slang words to describe stabbings. In the song, Yussuf also referenced the same brand of jacket that the victim was wearing when he died.

Yussuf was convicted of murder by a jury at Birmingham Crown Court, while the other three men with him at the time were found not guilty. In a victim impact statement, the mother of Yahya said that her son’s death had left an unfillable hole in her heart.

Yussuf, who was about to sign a contract with Sony, has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 22 years. The judge stated that Yussuf had chosen to carry a knife and had stabbed the victim, who posed no threat, through the heart.
