Stephen Spielberg’s 20 year-feud with Tom Cruise has ended over success of Top Gun: Maverick

The recent Oscars lunch brought to light the end of a 20-year feud between Stephen Spielberg and Tom Cruise. The pair had a souring of their relationship following their work together on the films “War of the Worlds” and “Minority Report”.

Reportedly, Spielberg was unhappy with Cruise’s behavior during press tours for “War of the Worlds,” including the now-infamous couch-jumping incident on Oprah, in which Cruise gushed about his relationship with Katie Holmes.

Cruise’s criticism of Brooke Shields for using antidepressants also upset Spielberg, who knew children helped by the drug. The director believed Cruise’s behavior overshadowed the release of the movie and cost it $30 million at the box office.

However, at the Oscars lunch, Spielberg praised Cruise for his work on “Top Gun: Maverick” and for his support of theatrical distribution. The two men were seen embracing, indicating that they may have put their differences behind them.

Modest Cruise is seen smiling and shaking his head as he took the compliments from his fellow movie icon on board at the Oscars luncheon

During an appearance on Oprah Winfrey's' talk show in May 2005 he was supposed to be promoting War of the Worlds but in now iconic scenes he jumped on her sofa to declare his love for Katie Holmes

This is the moment Spielberg and Cruise hugged one another earlier this month, ending a bitter 20 year feud over what Spielberg saw as Cruise's erratic behavior
