Joseph Kosinski, the film’s director, has said that he had only thirty minutes to convince Tom Cruise to star in “Top Gun: Maverick.”

“After reading the script, I had some ideas, which Jerry [Bruckheimer] liked. “He said, ‘You need to go pitch this to Tom personally,’” Kosinski explained to Polygon. “We flew to Paris, where Tom was filming ‘Mission: Impossible.’ Between setups, we had maybe a half-hour of his time.”

“And I had approximately 30 minutes to pitch this picture, which I didn’t understand until we landed. “However, when I arrived, I discovered that Tom didn’t want to make another ‘Top Gun’,” he explained.

“It’s one of those times, as a director, when you’re put on the spot to make the case for why this film should be made. I had 30 minutes to accomplish it.
