The Queen chose Princess Anne, her only daughter, to accompany the funeral procession on the six-hour journey from Balmoral to Edinburgh.

The Princess Royal, 72, wore a mournful face but stayed dignified as she and her husband of thirty years, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, were driven behind the funeral in a royal Bentley.

Nothing was left to chance in the arrangements for the Queen’s funeral, thus Her Majesty presumably requested that her daughter accompany the coffin to the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

Buckingham Palace announced that Princess Anne would travel to London with her mother’s coffin tomorrow, when it leaves Scotland by plane.

The Very Reverend Professor David Fergusson, dean of the Chapel Royal in Scotland, will also be aboard the 6 p.m. flight from Edinburgh to RAF Northolt in Ruislip, west London.

A state hearse will transport the coffin to Buckingham Palace from there.

Anne is considered by many to be the most diligent member of the royal family, having participated in over 20,000 engagements.

She is also one of King Charles III’s closest confidantes.
