Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro says the support his team received in KwaZulu-Natal shows how amazing the Buccaneers fans are

The support the Orlando Pirates got in KwaZulu-Natal demonstrated how incredible Buccaneers supporters are, according to Buccaneers coach Jose Riveiro.

The Soweto giants got raucous backing from their supporters at Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday, a week after The Ghost drew a massive crowd to Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Orlando Pirates dominated on both occasions, defeating Royal AM 1-0 in the league and 2-1 in the MTN8 quarterfinals against the same opponent on Saturday.

On Saturday, Riveiro described the atmosphere in Chatsworth, south of Durban, as “unbelievable.”

“We’re playing away and the last time we had 30,000 spectators at Moses Mabhida and tonight I don’t know how many people were here cheering us and supporting us.

“I will repeat myself, but it’s true that this is a special club and one of the main reasons is because of the fans. It’s amazing.”

He added: “I enjoy playing in Orlando Stadium with the fans coming to watch the game because they’re helping us a lot, and everyone who’s coming to our games, that’s the reason for us doing our best to fight until the end and we appreciate their support a lot.”

Six matches into the DStv Premiership season, Orlando Pirates are atop the rankings following a promising start to life under Jose Riveiro.

They have also advanced to the semifinals of the MTN8, where they will face the reigning champions, Mamelodi Sundowns.

Sunday, September 4, at 17:30, Orlando Pirates will play Maritzburg United.
