Officers from Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit seized firearms and drugs

Police from the Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit responded to a tip regarding narcotics being sold out of a location on 33rd Avenue in Claremont around 18:00 on July 6, 2022.

The team successfully carried out a sting operation before charging the location. A 43-year-old suspect was found to be in possession of 18 diamond ecstasy pills, 30 umbrella ecstasy tablets, 55 little ecstasy pieces, and 14 rounds of ammunition after a search was done. The suspect was taken into custody for having illegal access to firearms and narcotics possession. Yesterday, he made his appearance before the Pinetown Magistrates’ Court.

The same team performed a follow-up operation in New Germany the next day. A 53-year-old man was detained as a result of the operation. He was discovered to be in possession of a gun. A hunting rifle, a handgun, 260 rounds of ammunition, and seven magazines were found after a second search of the same location. The suspect was accused of having illegal access to guns and ammunition. Ballistic testing will be performed on the recovered weapons. Today, the suspect will appear at Pinetown Magistrates’ Court.
