Eight individuals were detained by the Bloemfontein K9 Unit, and more than 4 tons of copper cable was seized.

Members of the Bloemfontein K9 Unit conducted a stop and search operation close to the Verkeerdevlei toll gate on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at about 9:00.

there noticed a suspicious-looking white truck travelling from Bloemfontein to Winburg.

Four men in the truck’s cab were ordered to get out, and the driver was asked to open the cargo door.

Members discovered 4,2 tons of suspected stolen copper cables after he opened the door and discovered four additional males.

The eight suspects were asked to present documentation proving ownership, but they refused.

Further investigations found that the copper cables were being transported to Gauteng after being stolen from a railway firm in the Eastern Cape Province.

The truck and the stolen copper cables, estimated to be worth R900 000, were seized.

For possessing allegedly stolen goods, interfering with or damaging infrastructure, and violating the Immigration Act, all eight individuals were detained.

In the near future, the suspects will show up in Verkeerdevlei Magistrate court.
