Members of the Tshwane Metro Police Department’s (TMPD) Cable Theft Unit investigated reports of individuals attempting to steal cables from a trench in Suiderberg.

To stop this crime, a joint operation with other law enforcement officers was carried out on Tuesday evening, July 12, 2022.

Around 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday, workers in the Suiderberg trench began digging up the cable.

They will shortly appear in court after being immediately apprehended for interfering with crucial infrastructure.

About 200 meters of cable have been stolen from the same trench over the past three months, and the substation next to the trench was also vandalized.

The City of Tshwane will have to pay about R375 000 to fix this.

Bravo to the group! The TMPD will keep battling the cable theft scourge.

Customers can go to the client service center in Gezina at the SANAB Building at the intersection of Frederika and Johan Heyns Street or call 012 358 1550 to report cable theft.

All reported information will be handled in confidence.
