Following the arrest of three individuals with drugs worth more than R1.3 million, the management of the police in the Northern Cape is thrilled with the great drug successes made by officers in the Frances Baard, Namakwa, and Pixely Ka-Seme districts, respectively.

On Tuesday, July 12, 2022, the individuals were apprehended after separate operations motivated by crime intelligence in the Francis Baard, Namakwa, and Pixley Ka Seme Districts.

The Kimberley K9 Unit and the Hartswater K9 Unit tactically responded to intelligence about a woman who was trafficking cocaine from her red Range Rover at the Hartswater taxi stand.

Police officials and the drug-detecting canine “Eddie” investigated the suspect’s car, but no narcotics were discovered there.

The suspect’s home in Taung’s Extension 7 was the next location to be searched.

The drug dog “Eddie” responded favorably to the search at the suspect’s home and guided the handler to the suspect’s bedroom, where she had hidden the drugs.

The discovery included crystal meth weighing 12,7 grams with an estimated street value of R3 810, loose dagga weighing 5,40 kilograms with an estimated street value of R21 600, and heroin weighing 2,85 kilograms with an estimated street value of R1, 289 850.

On a charge of drug peddling, the defendant is anticipated to show up at the Taung Magistrate’s Court soon.

In a separate operation, the DPCI, Upington K9 Unit, Springbok Visible Policing, and local criminal record center personnel apprehended a 34-year-old male who was carrying 312 Boss mandrax tablets worth R24 960-00.

The squad used information they had about a man driving a car that was allegedly carrying a drug cargo to put it into action.

On the count of possessing mandrax tablets, the suspect is scheduled to appear in the Springbok Magistrate’s Court shortly.

A 32-year-old suspect in the third incident is scheduled to appear in the Prieska Magistrate’s court soon on a charge of drug peddling.

Members of Prieska Visible Policing detained the suspect in Steenbok Single.

The suspect was apprehended after the police took action in response to information about a wanted house-breaking suspect who might be hiding at the location of the man accused of trafficking drugs.

A wanted suspect was not present when authorities arrived at the scene.

However, when a 32-year-old man was discovered on the property, he was searched and discovered to be in possession of 40 small zip-lock bags containing crystal meth, weighing 8,84 grams, valued at R2,000, twelve quarter-sized mandrax tablets, worth R360, and five packets of dagga, valued at R50, as well as cash totaling R360, thought to be from drug sales.

The police will keep restricting the space that drug dealers can use.
