Man arrested for setting five fires in Central District

A 27-year-old man was arrested for arson Monday evening after he set fire to five Central District residences.

Officers and the Seattle Fire Department were called to a property in the 600 block of 37th Avenue about 7:30 p.m. after the homeowner spotted a guy attempting to set fire to his home.

Following the response to the property on 37th Avenue, police and firemen received complaints of more fires in the vicinity, including objects such as cut firewood, patio furniture, garbage bins, boxes, and gas grills.

Police and SFD responded to four more fires—one in the 3400 block of East Terrace Street, two in the 500 block of 31st Avenue, and one in the 500 block of 30th Avenue—and got reports that the suspect was racing through the yards of residences, naked and with a blanket over his head.

Officers apprehended the suspect, lodged him into the King County Jail for arson.
