Police apprehended a 36-year-old man early Wednesday after he set fire to a Georgetown building that houses a museum operations and storage facility.
Witnesses reported witnessing a man attempting to set fire to bushes in the 5900 block of 6th Avenue South shortly before 3:45 a.m.
Officers arrived and discovered some outside fire damage to the structure before apprehending the suspect, who was digging in a neighboring rubbish can.
Witnesses informed police they saw the man start a fire outside the structure and then add combustible materials to it.
Officers recovered a lighter and a butane torch from the suspect, 36, and booked him into the King County Jail for careless burning.
In a separate, unrelated incident, police in South Seattle are investigating a series of fires set in garbage cans and at a nearby construction site overnight.
Just before midnight, police and Seattle Fire responded to complaints of trash fires in the 2800 block of South Hanford Street and discovered three flames.
As part of the investigation, officers captured and identified a man at the scene. He was freed at the spot as authorities gathered additional evidence.
