Horrific moment squatters terrorize a Portland family, almost setting their home on fire

As Portland’s homelessness crisis continues to worsen, a horrific video has emerged showing squatters terrorizing a family, leaving many feeling unsafe.

Jacob and Beth Adams, who live next door to an abandoned home occupied by several homeless people, have had numerous disturbing encounters with the squatters, including overdoses and theft, but the situation escalated when the squatters set fire to the Adams’ property. Jacob stated that “there are fires that have been happening off and on. Major ones. This recent one actually came and set our property on fire.”

Many residents in the area share the Adams’ concern, including their neighbor, Vietnam veteran Armand Martens, who said he feels safer walking around in downtown Saigon than in Portland.

Despite Jacob’s constant calls to police about the squatter neighbors, nothing seems to have changed, and the situation is growing increasingly dangerous. Red vacate notices are posted on the squatter home, but the residents continue to remain.

The homelessness crisis has led to a rise in crime in the city, with reports of 93 homicides in 2022. Multnomah County counted 6,633 people experiencing homelessness on the night of January 26, 2022, and of those, 3,611 were living on the street and in homeless encampments. The city’s shelter housed an additional 2,222 people, and 800 more were in transitional housing.

Jacob Adams said squatters have moved into his Portland neighborhood and he always catches them screaming or overdosing. Pictured: a squatter living next door to Jacob Adams
