The voice-activated devices, which are used to activate items such as light controls and music players, are being commandeered by vengeful ex-partners who can access them if they know the password or use an app.
This allows them to eavesdrop on private conversations and remotely manipulate lighting and heating controls.

Each month, more than 600 incidents of cyberstalking are recorded.
Philippa Copleston-Warren, 46, in one instance used the speaker in her ex-bedroom boyfriend’s to yell “get the whore out” at him and his new partner.
She then remotely turned on and off the bedside light.

Professor George Loukas, an expert in cybersecurity at Greenwich University, advised, “If a relationship ends, remove your ex’s account from any shared smart home devices.” Change your own password as well.
Amazon stated, “Customers should keep their Amazon account information private and use a strong password or two-step verification to protect their accounts.”
