Corrie Pretorius was convicted of “racial assault” on a black boy

Corrie Pretorius, a guy from Limpopo who was captured on film abusing and pointing a gun at a 16-year-old black teenager, faces between one year in prison or an R12 000 fine.

On Monday, he stood before the Groblersdal magistrate’s court and pleaded guilty to the charges.

Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi, a spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority in Limpopo, stated that the accused and the complainant were present at the Game retail complex in Groblersdal on 15 June 2022 when the event occurred.

In a video that went popular on social media, Pretorius can be seen hitting, cursing at, and pointing a gun at a teenager after a dispute over seasoning spice.

Billy Mudavhi, who argued for immediate imprisonment on behalf of the state, told the court that the crime is grave and detrimental to the community.

“Mr. Monjane, the presiding officer, sentenced Pretorius to an R12 000 fine or 12 months in prison, of which half is suspended for five years subject to certain conditions. He also deemed him incompetent to possess a firearm, according to Malabi-Dzhangi.
