James Craven, who plays Aaron Sanford on Coronation Street, claims that as the ITV show’s non-consensual sex storyline was developed, it become harder to portray the character.

In subsequent scenes, Aaron Barlow will decide to have sex with Amy without Amy’s permission, which will cause strife in their relationship.

Amy approaches Aaron when she realizes something is wrong, but he is unaware that he committed a serious error.

James told the Daily Star and other journalists that he struggled to comprehend Aaron’s conduct in the painful narrative that will appear on ITV in the next weeks.

“I think the difficult thing for me as we went through this scenario was to kind of defend why he behaves in the manner that he does because clearly I as James know that it’s bad,” he said.

Nonetheless, “it was quite a difficult thing to kind of find a way for the character to explain his behavior.”

The actor also emphasized the necessity for care on site to protect the welfare of both himself and Elle Mulvaney, who portrays Amy.

The most crucial factor, he said, was making sure Elle was always comfortable. If there was anything we altered right away if she wasn’t pleased with it.

Researchers from Coronation Street collaborated with The Schools Consent Project, a foundation founded in early 2015, to bring the scenario to life.

The nonprofit organization sends volunteers with legal training into schools to conduct a variety of courses on the legal meaning of sexual consent and the most serious sexual offenses.

Director of The Schools Consent Project Monica Bhogal provided more information after collaborating with Coronation Street producers.

“The Schools Consent Project firmly believes that learning about sexual consent laws allows young people to understand their rights and responsibilities and empowers young people by giving them the skills, confidence, and knowledge they need to make safe, respectful, and healthy decisions around sexual consent,” she said.

“We are pleased to have been consulted on this plot, which sensitively and carefully transmits essential lessons about the subject of sexual consent.

Its inclusion in such a big-picture program highlights the importance of having consent dialogues and the effectiveness of consent education, she said.
