Dwaine Pretorius’s absence from the ODI series and the T20 World Cup is a major setback for the Proteas

Dwaine Pretorius, a Proteas all-rounder, was ruled out of the three-match One-Day International (ODI) series against India and the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup on Thursday owing to a fracture in his left thumb.

Pretorius was injured during the third T20 International against India at Indore’s Holkar Cricket Stadium.

“The severity of the injury necessitates surgical surgery,” stated Chief Medical Officer Shuaib Manjra. “Dwaine will contact the Cricket South Africa certified hand surgeon upon his arrival in South Africa.” Normal rehabilitation protocols will be followed to ensure he returns to cricket as soon as possible.”

Marco Jansen has been added to the ODI team, and Pretorius’ successor for the T20 World Cup will be announced in the coming days.
