Proteas announce ODI squad for England series

On Wednesday, Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) National Selection Committee announced a formidable 16-man team for the next One-Day International (ODI) Series between the Proteas and England, which will take place in Bloemfontein and Kimberley from January 27 to February 1.

Both all-rounder Sisanda Magala and all-rounder Marco Jansen return to the national team, looking to add to their three 50-over caps.

The recently appointed red-ball coach Shukri Conrad will oversee the series as the Proteas attempt to qualify for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in 2023. The squad will gather in Bloemfontein on January 24 and 25.

Temba Bavuma (DP World Lions, captain), Quinton de Kock (Momentum Multiply Titans), Reeza Hendricks (DP World Lions), Marco Jansen (Dafabet Warriors), Heinrich Klaasen (Momentum Multiply Titans), Sisanda Magala (DP World Lions), Keshav Maharaj, (Hollywoodbets Dolphins), Janneman Malan (Gbets Rocks), Aid (DP World Lions).

Victor Mpitsang, convener of selectors, stated, “The selection panel is particularly excited by the depth of this squad, which combines youth and experience.” This set of players will bring us one step closer to qualifying for the ICC Men’s World Cup in India later this year, we are convinced.

“We are particularly pleased with Sisanda’s inclusion and his dedication to meeting the fitness requirements for national selection.

The three-match series against England will begin our international home season after months on the road. We wish Temba and Shukri the best of luck in what will undoubtedly be an entertaining series against quality opposition.

Director of Cricket Enoch Nkwe stated, “Shukri will oversee the series in consultation with Rob (Walter), who is currently in New Zealand preparing to assume his role prior to the beginning of his tenure as limited-overs coach on February 1.”
