Babes Wodumo’s fans defend her after she was lambasted by her mother-in-law

Fans of Babes Wodumo have flocked to her defence after her mother-in-law Zamanguni Gumede criticised her for not grieving Big Nuz member Mampintsha in the traditional manner.

In an interview with Zimoja published on Thursday, 5 January, Mampintsha’s mother described her daughter-in-law’s choice to honour bookings days after her son’s death as “disrespectful.”

The Wololo hitmaker performed at a new year’s eve gathering only one day after her husband’s burial. She has also been seen playing at various entertainment venues following Mampintsha’s burial on December 30.

The 40-year-old kwaito and gqom singer died on December 24 after a minor stroke.

Speaking to the publication, Zamanguni: “One; no offence, I love Babes, she and I reunited and made peace at the funeral, but this is not how things are done…”.

“Firstly, she is not at home, she is gallivanting in the streets, drinking and partying. Two, she is not wearing traditional mourning clothes. The daughter of a pastor is not following the rules. She is doing things her own way,” she said.

“I am not a very traditional person myself, and I understand people heal differently and deal with grief in their own way, but this is not right. This is painful to watch. She is disrespecting my son in a way,” she added.

Additionally, Zamanguni questioned Babes Wodumo’s family’s decision not to repramand the woman.

“Why are they not saying anything? It has not even been a month. I wouldn’t be shocked If she were to start dating someone. After everything, I am very disappointed. I just want her and me to talk and for us to find a way forward.”

However, Babes Wodumo’ fans are on her side and have labelled Mampintsha’s mother an attention seeker.

“Lona yena [This one] likes attention, since they have made peace why is she addressing the media and not Babes,” @McGeeVinger wrote.

“Babes is young. It’s very unfair to expect her to wear black clothes and sit on a mattress for 6 months. Sponge’s gotta eat!” @KekanaTshephang said.

While @KgomotsoTlhaoan wrote: “This is the only life Babes and Mampitsha knew the life of the party, we don’t know what is going inside of her but who knows maybe this is her own way of grieving her Husand or its her coping mechanism. She can’t expect her to cry day and night, she must let Babes be.
