Ariana DeBose says she was told to “celebrate women” at 2023 BAFTAs amid backlash she received for her viral rap

During an upcoming interview on the “Zoe Ball Breakfast Show” Monday, Ariana DeBose revealed that she was asked to “celebrate women” at the 2023 BAFTAs following the backlash she received for her now-viral rap.

The “West Side Story” actress explains that she was not the one who sought out the opportunity to attend the show, but that the invitation was extended to her.

DeBose says that the entire experience was “so awesome” and that she spent the night “cutting a rug” with stars like Emma Thompson. She performed a cover of Eurythmics’ “Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves” and Sister Sledge’s “We Are Family” at the awards show, including her own rap where she name-dropped all of the female nominees of the BAFTAs that evening.

After the backlash mounted, DeBose deleted her Twitter account, but she shared a cryptic post on Instagram Tuesday that was apparently aimed at her haters.
