Reports indicate that an Argentinian mother and her female partner have been sentenced to life in prison for killing and sexually abusing the mother’s 5-year-old son. Magdalena Espósito Valenti and Abigail Páez were found guilty of aggravated homicide after 15 days of deliberations by the Oral Court of Santa Rosa in La Pampa.
The two women were accused of beating Lucio Dupuy to death on November 26, 2021, after months of abuse. Páez was also found guilty of an additional count of sexual abuse.
According to the allegations, Valenti and Páez killed Lucio between 5:30 p.m. and 7:40 p.m. and claimed that the boy fell during an attempted robbery of their home. However, the women were arrested after medical tests revealed evidence of abuse.
The lawyers of Valenti and Páez claim that neither woman intended to kill Lucio. The judges found Valenti guilty of three counts of aggravated homicide but not guilty of sexual abuse.
Páez, on the other hand, was found guilty of “seriously outrageous sexual abuse” based on her status as a guardian of the minor and for taking advantage of living together to commit the offense.
Páez was also convicted of two counts of aggravated homicide, qualified by intent and malice aforethought. The judges stated that both Valenti and Páez understood the crime they committed and were to register as sex offenders.
The prosecutor stated that Valenti and Páez would be jailed for the rest of their lives, as they cannot ask for parole even when they are over 50 years old due to the article of the Penal Code under which they were sentenced.
This means they have no possibility of release and cannot ask for parole after any term has passed. Neither Valenti nor Páez were present at the reading of the verdict, which was handed down by Judges Alejandra Ongaro, Daniel Sáez Zamora, and Andrés Olié.
