BAFTAs’ new structure is polarizing, but supporters want Alison Hammond to host

TV host Alison Hammond, 48, is in high demand from BBC fans to host a future BAFTAs event.

While she and Richard E Grant co-hosted the illustrious event on Sunday, February 19, at London’s Royal Albert Hall, fans of the This Morning anchor applauded her on social media.

Austin Butler, Martin Freeman, and Geri Halliwell Horner were among the famous people Alison spoke with backstage to learn how they felt about the event.

Historically, the BAFTAs have been pre-recorded, edited, and shown on BBC One.

The last four awards were televised live for the first time ever this year thanks to a change in strategy by the producers, and Alison stayed backstage to get the scoop.

She should return as the major presenter the next year, tweeted fans after the program, and one admirer even referred to her as the “ideal host.”

Next year, they should give our girl Alison Hammond the lead presenting role, a viewer tweeted. No need for this co-presenter babble.

One person said, “Love Alison, but these interviews are just weird and obviously not required,” while another added, ”

“Well, for me, that structure simply didn’t work,” said a third critic. Make Alison Hammond the primary host, please.

“I’d absolutely enjoy an Alison Hammond talk show,” said a fourth commenter. She would excel at it. I’m not sure whether splitting it apart with the #baftas is the best format, however.

It follows a night of excitement in the entertainment and business as the event honored the absolute best in cinema and television.

As the gala honoring late giants in the business began, emcee Richard made a subtle jab at Will Smith’s Oscars slap before becoming visibly moved.

From Barry Keoghan receiving Best Supporting Actor for his work in The Banshees of Inisherin to Austin Butler winning Leading Actor for Elvis, a long range of celebrities took home significant awards.

When Dame Helen Mirren paid homage to his late grandmother, the Queen, Prince William, who was also present in the building with his wife, Kate, allegedly started to cry.
