In response to claims that she is “addicted” to red carpet photo ops and was losing “relatability,” Annastacia Palaszczuk has denied that she was instructed to forgo a star-studded news conference with Russell Crowe in order to improve her public image.
When it was revealed that the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards (AACTA) will shift from Sydney to the Gold Coast in January in Burleigh Heads, the Queensland premier was conspicuously absent.
The announcement had to be made by actor Russell Crowe, with tourism minister Stirling Hinchliffe filling in for the prime minister.
According to Labor insiders, Ms. Palaszczuk had been counseled against going because of worries that she was losing support among voters, The Australian’s Diary said.
Concerns that she had attended too many red carpet events and crossed paths with celebrities like Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hanks reportedly led to the purported advise.
As a result of her propensity to often attend glitzy social gatherings, critics have dubbed her the “part-time premier,” “Red Carpet Premier,” and “Hollywood Anna.”
A representative for Ms. Palaszczuk’s office shot off rumors that the premier had been told not to attend the most recent news conference.
They dispelled rumors that there were worries that if the premier was seen with Crowe, it would have a detrimental effect on her electability.
The spokeswoman said that the rumors were simply “false” and that Ms. Palaszczuk was occupied with other obligations.
According to a YouGov survey done in July, 50% of respondents said Ms. Palaszczuk had been enjoying the “high life.”
Although 31% were unsure, 19% of respondents disagreed.
In September 2017, Ms. Palaszczuk was seen with musician Elton John as she gave him a street sign bearing his name.
During the Australian premiere of Thor: Ragnarok in October, she was captured in a shot with star Chris Hemsworth one month later.
Jason Momoa and Ms. Palaszczuk later spoke during the October 2018 Aquaman movie premiere.
During the June 4, 2022, premiere of Elvis, the star mingled with a host of superstars, including Tom Hanks and director Baz Luhrman.
The same year, Ms. Palaszczuk attended the Logies and many horse racing occasions, including the Stradbroke Handicap and Magic Millions.
Reza Adib, her surgeon boyfriend, has often accompanied her on her public appearances.
Once Mr. Adib joined the premier to the opening ceremony of the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games in May 2022, the two caused controversy.
Ms. Palaszczuk felt compelled to apologize right away.
I see now that I should not have brought my boyfriend to that meeting, she said.
“I’m sorry, it was never my aim to upset anybody,” the offender says.
If Ms. Palaszczuk successfully guides her party to victory in the forthcoming election, she might become the longest-serving Labor premier in Queensland since World War II.
