Queensland will abandon coal by 2035 – Annastacia Palaszczuk

By 2035, Queensland will no longer use coal-fired energy, switching to pumped hydro and other renewable sources to power the state.

The statement was made by the premier during her Wednesday “state-of-the-state” speech.

By 2032, Ms. Palaszczuk said, 70 percent of Queensland’s electricity would come from renewable sources, up from the state’s original goal of 50 percent by 2030.

The Adani Carmichael mine, which is now being developed in central Queensland, and other large coal activities are located in this state, making the coal announcement crucial.

From 2027, existing coal-fired power plants will transform into “clean energy centers,” according to Ms. Palaszczuk.

‘This proposal is all about providing Queenslanders with more affordable, secure, and clean energy,’ Ms. Palaszczuk said.

It’s all about accelerating new investment in manufacturing, batteries, and minerals.

The least expensive kind of new energy is renewable energy.

“This strategy turns Queensland into the world’s hub for renewable energy.”

The largest commitment to renewable energy in Australia’s history is made as part of the “it also takes meaningful and decisive action on climate change” initiative.

The proposal calls for the construction of a large dam in the Pioneer Valley, close to Mackay, which would ultimately provide half of Queensland’s total electricity needs.
