AA flight forced to make emergency landing in North Carolina after woman tried to breach cockpit on air

An American Airlines flight had to make an emergency landing in North Carolina on Wednesday because a woman in first class allegedly attempted to breach the cockpit in a fit of anger after being denied a drink. The incident occurred on American Eagle Flight 3444, which was en route from Jacksonville, Florida, to Washington, DC.

The airline stated that the flight was diverted to Raleigh-Durham International Airport due to a “security concern involving an unruly customer.” Tiffany Miles, 36, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge and released on bond.

The Federal Aviation Administration reported that Miles charged at the cockpit door. In radio transmissions from Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority Police, officers said that the flight crew and other passengers were restraining her.

According to passenger Kara Rosario, Miles was upset when she wasn’t served a drink, and another passenger got up to help the flight attendants calm her down.

The FBI is investigating the incident, and the FAA is working on a rule that would require new planes to have a second barrier to the cockpit.
