34-year-old suspect arrested with stolen frozen chickens in Motherwell, Gqeberha

On Thursday, January 26, 2023, a 34-year-old suspect was apprehended with stolen frozen chickens in Motherwell, Gqeberha.

Officers from the Ikamvelihle police station apprehended the suspect after receiving a tip from a member of the community.

According to Captain Gerda Swart, police got information about a suspect in a black Corsa bakkie off-loading frozen chickens at a property in Ingwe Street, NU1, Motherwell, at 12:30 on Thursday, 26 January 2023.

Gerda Swart stated “ “Upon arrival (at the address), members (of the police) discovered that the garage was full of half-frozen bags of chicken.”

The defendant was apprehended on the scene by police, who seized the frozen chickens.

Swart said that police officers discovered the bakkie driver placing some of the frozen bags of chickens into his bakkie.

Gerda Swart said that “Further investigations revealed that a delivery truck carrying bags of chicken was hijacked earlier in the morning in Swartkops. The (hijacked)  truck was recovered in Kwazakele. “

Swart claims the cops seized the black Corsa bakkie. The frozen chicken bags were returned to their rightful owner by police.

“The estimated value of the frozen chicken that was recovered amounts to almost R380 000.” Swart said.

Swart said the suspect is scheduled to appear in Motherwell Magistrate Court on Friday, January 27, 2023.

He is charged with having stolen property in his possession.

The investigation is ongoing, and the hunt for the other suspects is underway.
