Ryan Reynolds needed a drink after Wrexham won a seven-goal thriller in the 96th minute, while Rob McElhenney joked he might have a heart attack.

The National League side won a thrilling game away at Aldershot, with their Hollywood actor owners watching from afar. A brace from Paul Mullin put them two up before Oliver Pendlebury equalized for the hosts.

The visitors’ two-goal lead was restored by an own goal by Corey Jordan. Aldershot hit back through Jake Hutchinson, and a Jordan Tunnicliffe own goal late on appeared to have ensured a draw at the Recreation Ground.

However, in the sixth minute of stoppage time, substitute Sam Dalby popped up with a header to give Wrexham a huge three points in their promotion push.

Reynolds, who would have been watching the match in America in the morning, tweeted: “Really pushing the boundaries of acceptable drinking hours. @Wrexham AFC, please forgive me.”

Meanwhile, McElhenney posted: “This season, I could die from a cardiac event. Football is both magical and terrifying.”

Wrexham maintained their lead over title rivals Notts County, who won 4-1 away at Yeovil. The Welsh team is five points behind the league leaders.

They do, however, have two games in hand due to their FA Cup run, which ended earlier this month with a defeat in their fifth-round replay at Sheffield United.

If they win both of those, they will return to the summit, where they must be to gain automatic promotion to the football league. A second-place finish would mean a return to the play-offs, where they were defeated by Grimsby Town last year.
